In 2004, the Spring Drive was created – a groundbreaking innovation in a new automatic watch with one-second-a-day accuracy. It is a watch movement powered by a main spring with a regulator without an escapement, combining the beauty of the mechanical watch and the precision of electronic timekeeping. 2024 marks the 20th Anniversary since the 9R Spring Drive Movement.

‘The Nature of Time’ theme features prominently in Grand Seiko watch designs – a Japanese spirituality where each moment is a unique expression unveiled through light and shadow. The watchmakers’ pride in their surroundings is represented from engineering watch movements, to creating dials reflecting the beauty of Japanese nature.

The deep red dial of this design is inspired by summer’s morning glow of sunrise over the Hotaka mountain peaks – near to Japan’s Shinshu Watch Studio, birthplace of Spring Drive. The black ceramic bezel resembles the steep rock face whilst silver-toned hands coated in Lumibrite are enclosed in dual-curved sapphire crystal. Its GMT function tracks two time zones simultaneously, the power reserve indicator demonstrates the status of the battery charge and its date function is at 4 o’clock.
This timepiece is powered by an in-house 9R66 Spring Drive calibre, providing a seamless sweep of the second hand. Accurate to +/-15 seconds per month, it has has a three-day power reserve.

This timepiece is limited to only 1,300 pieces worldwide.
