Description
In North-East Japan, Miyako Bay is on the coast of Iwate prefecture where all Grand Seiko mechanical watches are crafted. Renowned for its idyllic surroundings, the bay is recognised by the Japanese as a ‘Special Place of Scenic Beauty.’ Along the stretch of coastline at Jōdogahama Beach, there are a series of white rock formations formed by lava over 52 million years ago.
The dial of this Grand Seiko captures the beauty of the starry night sky above Jōdogahama beach. Contrasting the dark-grey dial is the cool blue accent colour of the second hand, inspired by the moonlit waters and daytime skyline. Under a box-sapphire crystal glass is a mosaic pattern – geometric, like rock formations. Encased in the classic 62GS style, this piece has a bezel-free construction and wide dial opening, allowing for extra light reflection. Characteristic of the 62GS, the case style is also multifaceted with razor sharp edges, which when paired with Grand Seiko’s signature Zaratsu polish, gives a striking effect.
Through an exhibition case back, the in-house built Hi-Beat 9S85 movement is visible, vibrating 36,000 times per hour. Accurate to +5/-3 seconds per day, this piece has a power reserve of 55 hours.
Every Grand Seiko features signature high standards of precision, durability and legibility, handcrafted in Japan by Takumi artisans.
