Introducing a high intensity titanium timepiece from the Suwa lake design series – watches inspired by the natural beauty near to the Grand Seiko Shinshu studio where Spring Drive watches are created. The Grand Seiko watchmakers’ pride in their surroundings is regularly represented in their designs – from engineering watch movements which emulate the smooth motion of time passing, to creating dials reflecting the beauty of Japanese nature.

The dial pattern reflects the gentle ripples of the peaceful Suwa lake and this serenity belies its innovative accuracy inside, featuring the new Spring Drive movement, 20 years on from its 1999 launch, now in a lighter weight edition, crafted from high intensity titanium.

This timepiece is within the Evolution 9 Collection; watches created with a contemporary design format based on the recognisable 1967 44GS Grand Seiko Style. This new grammar of design takes the brand’s ideals of beauty, legibility and wearability to new levels with nine design elements, based around the three design principles: Firstly an “evolution in aesthetics” – the design expresses infinite gradations between light and shadow achieved with polished surfaces. Secondly an “evolution in legibility” – the powerful hands and grooved, prominent markers ensure excellent legibility. Thirdly an “evolution in comfort” – curved lugs; the crown guard to reduce damage, and the improved crown shape ensures an easier grip.

The SLGA019 is powered by the latest iteration of the unique in-house Spring Drive movement that generates energy like a traditional mechanical watch but combines this with an electronic regulator for superior precision and accuracy. The signature of Spring Drive is the smooth motion of its second hand which moves in a silent and beautiful glide motion, rather than the second tick of a quartz watch or the rapid beat of a mechanical watch. Now relaunched, revamped and redesigned: the next generation Spring Drive Calibre 9RA2 is slimmer, with an impressive power reserve of 120 hours and even greater accuracy of -/+10 seconds per month. Slimness is achieved with an Offset Magic Lever that reduces the movement’s depth by 0.8mm compared to our core 9R range. The 120 hour power reserve is achieved through Dual-size Barrels arranged to allow for expanded capacity in a smaller space while the One-piece Centre Bridge guarantees the movement’s strength, durability and shock resistance.
